Michael Medved's Open Letter to Rep. Ron Paul

Since Paul Hue is such an avid supporter of Congressman Paul, I can't help but wonder what his (and Ron Paul's) response would be to this:

Dear Congressman Paul:

Your Presidential campaign has drawn the enthusiastic support of an imposing collection of Neo-Nazis, White Supremacists, Holocaust Deniers, 9/11 “Truthers” and other paranoid and discredited conspiracists.

Do you welcome- or repudiate – the support of such factions?

More specifically, your columns have been featured for several years in the American Free Press –a publication of the nation’s leading Holocaust Denier and anti-Semitic agitator, Willis Carto. His book club even recommends works that glorify the Nazi SS, and glowingly describe the “comforts and amenities” provided for inmates of Auschwitz.

Have your columns appeared in the American Free Press with your knowledge and approval? As a Presidential candidate, will you now disassociate yourself, clearly and publicly, from the poisonous propaganda promoted in such publications?

As a guest on my syndicated radio show, you answered my questions directly and fearlessly. Will you now answer these pressing questions, and eliminate all associations between your campaign and some of the most loathsome fringe groups in American society?

Along with my listeners (and many of your own supporters), I eagerly await your response.

Respectfully, Michael Medved

If all of these assertions Medved makes here are true, which as far as I've been able to discern they are, it's beyond me how anyone could support this loon as a legitimate presidential candidate. But hey, that's just me.

Six: Medved has an impeccable record with me, so I accept these accusations. However, they don't bother me, since Medved hasn't offered any evidence that Paul encourages these fringe lunatics. And I don't understand what Medved wants Paul to do.

Please explain your objections to Paul. He's the only candidate on the repo side who speaks plainly; the dems have Kuchenich and the Alaska guy, though their plain speak reveals positions that I mostly oppose.

Who else running really believes in small govt? Even if Paul believes that the Holocaust never happened, and that Dachau and Bergen-Belsen resembled hotels, WHO CARES, so long has he can champion us a flat tax, privatized SS, school vouchers, and all the rest. I don't even care if believes that George Bush staged 911 and lied about WMD.

Consider the alternatives: All the other candidates properly lament the Holocaust and refute the 911 nuts. How does this help us get a better nation, where poor black parents can choose where to spend the 14k$/year that the govt has for each of their kid's education, and I can actually keep and manage my own SS contribution, and where my dad and Nadir's dad can marry if they like.

"Even if Paul believes that the Holocaust never happened, and that Dachau and Bergen-Belsen resembled hotels, WHO CARES..."

Wow. That's really disturbing to me that you feel this way, because this tells me much about his character and obviously for you it doesn't.

"He's the only candidate on the repo side who speaks plainly"

I don't agree with this statement at all. Compared especially to their competition on the Dem side I think they all, with the possible exception of Romney, speak very plainly. The Dems, especially Hillary tie themselves in knots continually trying to placate the different factions within their party. Besides, Ron Paul has no foreign policy. His idea of foreign policy is isolationism and how many times throughout history has that been tried and failed before you realize it doesn't work?

"...since Medved hasn't offered any evidence that Paul encourages these fringe lunatics."

He shouldn't have to. It's guilt by association. Personally, when I find out someone I know, or am aquainted with is a believer in this sort of sick, twisted stuff I generally do what I can to distance myself from them if at all possible.

Ron Paul should too. Otherwise he's not worthy of being taken seriously.

The bottom line is, you're throwing your vote away. Paul's not going to win. In effect to analogize what you're saying is, you're so mad at your corrupt police department for not keeping your house from getting broken that your going to give the keys to your house to the crooks out of spite.

I don't get it.

Hutton Gibson for Ron Paul:

Mel Gibson’s Holocaust-denying father Hutton Gibson enthusiastically endorses The Only Man Who Can Save America.

This is some company you're in with Paul.

Hmm. I suppose I am considering voting repo again, with the hopes of preserving the last tax cuts, and getting some more progress on flattening the tax structure. But what confidence can I have that the repos will stop expanding the govt, including that stupid Homeland Security dept?

I am unsure if isolationism will fail or work, and am interested in giving it a try. And I have not given up hope that Bush's imperfect Iraqi adventure will yet result in a civilized state, and one that will influence the development of civilization elsewhere in the region. So I am uncertain here.

I will try to pay more attention to Rudy and the others in an effort to reassess my impression that they just talk jive. On issues where I understand McCain I disagree at least in some cases, such as campaign finance restrictions. And he and the others seem very devoted to Homeland Security, while none have plainly advocated the elimination of farm subsidies.

Sixy: Please make your case to me for any of the repos. What plans are they advocating that attract you?
