Beautiful Maidens

Anti-terror TV show, "Beautiful Maidens", angers some Arabs for depicting the terrorists negatively. It takes its name from the promise of 72 "Beautiful Maidens" that await suicide bombers in heaven.

Another good article, Slinger.

Just like there are Christian extremists, most Muslims are moderate, non-violent people who simply want to live their lives in peace like all the rest of us. The mistaken notions that all or even most Muslims are violent or that Islam is a violent religion should be eliminated.

My thought was that the guy who made this film and the actors performing in it have some serious cahones. Bravo to them for having the courage to make the film and to those with the courage to air it in the Muslim world.

It doesn't take a ton of courage to air this in the Muslim world. As I said, most of the Muslim world is moderate. This is a film that would upset some conservatives and the extremists just like "The Last Temptation of Christ" created controversy in the Christian world.
In fact, "Last Temptation" was probably a more extreme example because it introduced the notion that Christ sinned in his lusting after Mary Magdelene.

The Islamic film in question uses the Quran to refute a hadith. These debates happen all the time in the Muslim world. As the article states, there is usually one film or tv program every year that stirs up the controversy.

The film is mostly remarkable because it shows non-Muslims what Muslims already know - that much of the propaganda that is spread about Islam is false.

Slight difference here;

I don't recall anyone being killed or having their throat slit over "The Last Temptation of Christ", or over "artwork" depicting a crucified Jesus in a bottle of urine.

Only slightly different. Just ask Theo Van Gogh. Oh wait, he's dead. Was shot and had his throat slit in the middle of the street.

Nadir: You are attacking a straw man when you say, "The mistaken notions that all or even most Muslims are violent or that Islam is a violent religion should be eliminated." I have never read or heard *ANYBODY* saying this of "all or even most" Muslims. We agree with the muslims who are angry that their religion has been taken over by violent bastards who want to enforce religious strictures as the law of the land in many nations.

And you are NUTS to compare the christian reaction to "Last Temptation of Christ" to muslim reaction to this TV show. Scorsese did not risk his life making that film, and the author of the book never received any death threats. Salman Rushdie, on the other hand, had a NATIONAL GOVERNMENT issue an assassination order on him! The people making this show are risking their lives. There is no equivilence here. Christian extremism in 2005 does not equal muslim extremism. The facts refute this; only pig-headed predjudice can explain your thinking otherwise.

Paul says: "We agree with the muslims who are angry that their religion has been taken over by violent bastards who want to enforce religious strictures as the law of the land in many nations."

The religion hasn't been "taken over" by anyone. A few religious zealots have "taken over" a couple of parliaments and presidencies, but no one has "taken over" the religion.

Western propaganda, in its never ending quest to terrify its audience, has presented this image. It is not the case.

"And you are NUTS to compare the christian reaction to "Last Temptation of Christ" to muslim reaction to this TV show."

No one has called for the death of this tv show's producers. The Ayatollah Khomeini was a raving maniac, and most Muslims would admit that. He went after Madonna too!

You guys (and the Western media) take a couple of extreme incidents and blow them out of proportion and now you believe that all of Islam is like that. YOU ARE WRONG.

Nadir: How would you compare "western propoganda" with "islamic propoganda", in terms of devising to terrify? I suppose there might be no point in discussing these matters, as we both know all the actions of the government agents and citizens of these different nations. No muslim has any fear of walking about and residing in any democratic nation on this earh, while practicing his religion openly, speaking freely and loudly, and openly practicing any lifestyle that he chooses in contradiction to the local norm, including wearing hot pants and lipstick and having sex with men, worshiping the ancient Greek gods, and calling the following people fags whose mothers were whores: Jesus, Muhammad, and Moses; and burning the following books in public: bible and koran.

Shall I list 20 nations where such conduct is 100% tolerated? None of them are Islamic. Can you please cite a single Islamic nation where such conduct would not get you lynched by a mob, or imprisoned by the state?

There are muslims who believe that their religion has been hyjacked by violent tyrants, and I agree with them.
