There is one big difference between this NBA player and Jackie Robinson, Muhamad Ali, etc.: Those guys in the past were fighting real devils, whereas this guy is fighting a phantoms. The only thing I see impressive here is that a rich athlete is speaking publically on controversial topics, risking his advertising appeal. But I disagree with just about every word he says. The social spending that he calls for -- more of it! -- is what has caused all the poverty in the first place. A vigorous economy will help impoverished black people more than food stamps. The NBA player wants to take conservatives to live in the ghetto. Well, plenty of conservatives GREW UP IN THE GHETTO. They know all about the ghetto, thank you very much. I suggest that this NBA player take some time to read some of these former ghetto residents:
Thomas Sowell
Walter Williams
Star Parker

Obviously you haven't read your father's book. The conservatives he is talking about have no concept of the ghetto. Sowell, Williams and Parker constantly present ideas that would be detrimental to people in the "hood". If they really are from there, they have long since forgotten those roots.

And Paul, I believe you have forgotten your own...

I very much recall my years in the ghetto. I remain in concordance with my dad's assessment of how the ghettos came to be, but now reject his prescriptions and contemporary assessments. The colored conservatives disagree with you, Nadir, but they are no less devoted than you to achieving the best possible outcome.
