Oscar composer Bacharach's Anti-War Tune

"I heard (then U.S. Secretary of State) Colin Powell tell the United Nations there are weapons of mass destruction. I totally believed him. I love this guy. He's like a hero. This was such a bad, bad blemish mark on his life, that he was so wronged. Then we go into Iraq. It looked like the heroic, right thing to do. It was the wrong thing to do. There was fabricated information. There are no weapons of mass destruction."

Nadir: What are we supposed to do with this? Bacharach opposes the Iraqi war? Well, I oppose him getting an Oscar for the very fine, "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head" (Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid), which unjustly beat the much greater, "Everybody's Talkin' At Me" (Midnight Cowboy). So, this guy agrees with Cindy & Martin Sheen that (1) Bush **KNEW** as a fact that Iraq had no banned weapons, which means that he also knew that his invasion would show expose this lie; and (2) that only the uncovery of such weapons could justify the war. OK. Could I change your mind about this if I could show you that the guy who wrote, "Everybody's Talkin' At Me", supported my view?

Yes, but either of you know the way to San Jose?

The fact that you would equate Bacharach winning an Oscar with the deaths of thousands of people shows a lack of principles and character on your part.

The fact that you believe "Everybody's Talkin' At Me" is a better song than "Raindrops" shows a lack of taste on your part. "Raindrops" is clearly a superior composition.

I thought this was an interesting story, and it gave you right-wing nuts yet another example of someone who was in favor of the war but now is against it.

It's okay to say, "I was wrong." Hell, Burt wrote a song about it! He never writes lyrics at all, much less about politics!

I'll "Say a little prayer for you..."

Nadir: I retract my disparagement of your posting this article. I did not gather that your point was to show that yet another initially pro-war person had switched sides. I think it is always helpful for a poster to include at least a very brief description of why he or she considers the article to have merit. I now accept this contribution as logical and worthy of consideration by us war mongers. I agree that pro-war support has disapated, including my own, which has been as high as 80%, and is now close to dipping belew 50%. For me, my "47%" support would mean that I oppose the war, but not enthusiastically. Now, my 57% support means that I support the war, but not enthusiastically.

Nadir: you are an idiot if you think that "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head" trumps "Everybody's Talkin' At Me." However, I lack any formal training in music production or appreciation. I like both songs, and think that they both triumph at their roles in the respective excellent films. But "Everybody..." touches and resonates more with me more.

Nadir: But of course neither of those songs perform as well as the song that you contributed to "Barbed", which of course was a superior film.
