Criminal Thugs Seek to Protect Themselves from Future Prosecution

The Bush administration has drafted amendments to the War Crimes Act that would retroactively protect policymakers from possible criminal charges for authorizing humiliating and degrading treatment of detainees, according to lawyers who have seen the proposal.

The White House, without elaboration, said in a statement that the bill "will apply to any conduct by any U.S. personnel, whether committed before or after the law is enacted."
These are the kinds of leaders you right-wingnuts respect. Those who would commit war crimes and then change the laws to protect themselves from their evil deeds.

I have no respect for these thugs or for anyone who approves of these degrading actions. These people have no respect for the law, for human rights or for their country.

This amendment would give them a blank check to commit attrocities all over the planet. It is abominable and stupid. If this passes, it will give the entire world a reason to turn against US.

I think that these laws are potentially necessary to protect govt leaders from political prosecutions by people like you, Nadir, who will see "criminal" acts amoungst leaders you oppose merely because you oppose them. The drawback to these laws is that they can permit real crimes to occur. I 100% oppose torture. I'm not 100% sure where I stand on these laws, as I don't want US govt reps to enact, order, or even tolerate toruture. However, I also don't want innocent people to get prosecuted by people who oppose the war and will see crimes weather they occur or not. At this point, I'm undecided on this issue.
