Driving with Cash is a Crime

A federal appeals court ruled [last week] that if a motorist is carrying large sums of money, it is automatically subject to confiscation. In the case entitled, "United States of America v. $124,700 in U.S. Currency," the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit took that amount of cash away from Emiliano Gomez Gonzolez, a man with a "lack of significant criminal history" neither accused nor convicted of any crime.

Gee, I wonder if the assumption that this man was involved in a drug related activity had anything to do with his race or his inability to speak English...

I support your position here, Nadir. I support the cops looking ever further for evidence of a crime as they increasingly uncovered ever more suspicious facts. However, they ultimately found nothing, and should have let the fellow go along with his cash. The bark of the dog I think should have warrented a more detailed search, but with that uncovering nothing more, the case should have ended, provided that the fellow was in the US legally. Even then, he's entitled to the cash in his posession. I agree with everything that the officers did, except for failing to return his money.
