Freedom of Information Denied in Brooklyn

Javed Iqbal, a.k.a. "John Iqbal," 42, of Staten Island, N.Y., has been arrested and charged with conspiring to violate the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), RAW STORY has learned.

A complaint announced today by the FBI alleges that through a company called HDTV Ltd. located in Brooklyn, Iqbal and others provided customers in the New York area with satellite broadcasts of al Manar, which is a television station owned and/or operated by Hezbollah.

If viewers are forced to watch pro-Israeli propaganda on Fox News and all the rest of the mainstream news outlets, why are they not allowed to see pro-Hezbollah propaganda on one station? Doesn't the FBI believe US citizens are smart enough to realize the truth is somewhere in the middle?

What is the FBI afraid of? If Israel is in the right, then Hezbollah's propaganda won't sway anyone's opinion, will it?

I don't have a clear opinion on this. I certainly support broadcasting even Nazi and KKK speaches, I suppose even when the Nazis and KKKers were active forces working effectively to topple the US govt. However, I also support laws banning US citizens and residents from conducting formal business affairs with such groups. The person arrested here was not merely showing what I consider to be Nazi / KKK speaches; he obtained and displayed these speaches within the context of a formal business arrangement with a group that I consider to be practically indistinguishable from the 1930s German Nazi Party, or the 1930s Georgia KKK. Thus it appears that this guy is working to advance the aims of this 2006 international tyrantical group, which employs violence as a primary tool in extending its tyranny accross international borders, and onto people otherwise living in freedom under a government of their own on-going creation ("democracy"). Thus I am leaning towards favoring the imprisonment of this guy.
