Canada's PM doubts Israeli bombing of UN outpost deliberate

Stephen Harper delivers a rebuke to UN chief Kofi Annan:

OTTAWA (AFP) - Canada’s Prime Minister Stephen Harper said an Israeli attack on a UN outpost that killed four, including a Canadian, was a “terrible tragedy” but not likely deliberate.

At the same time, he questioned why the UN had manned the outpost in Lebanon near the Israeli border as bombs exploded all around.

We want to find out why this United Nations post was attacked and also why it remained manned during what is now, more or less, a war during obvious danger to these individuals,” he told reporters.

Asked about UN head Kofi Annan’s statement suggesting Israel had targeted the outpost, Harper said: “I certainly doubt that to be the case.”

Six: This will not persuade Nadir, even though Canada is somewhat socialist (alleged "universal" healthcare, very high taxes, govt housing for everyone, etc.), because this new PM is a "conservative." ...or maybe he "has" to say this, due to fear of the Isreali lobby and voters in Canada.

Sure hope those Isrealis lose. What a terrible world it would be if the Isrealis had their way!

This will not persuade me.

You won't find many politicians in Canada or the US who will openly oppose Israel.

Additionally Harper is all but a neocon, and according to my friends in Quebec (who voted for him, by the way), he is wrecking the Canadian government on many fronts. We would have expected nothing less from him.

Wait... Paul was right for a change???

Oh please. That's an complete canard.

Besides, most Canadian conservatives would still qualify as liberals in the States.

Forgive my ignorance.

What does "an complete canard" mean?

Nevermind. I looked it up.

Nope. You are wrong. It is not "an airplane with horizontal stabilizing and control surfaces in front of supporting surfaces" nor is it "a false or unfounded report or story; especially : a fabricated report or a groundless rumor or belief".

The Israeli lobby has its hooks deep into Canadaian politics just like it does in Europe and the US.

Harper is pretty damn neocon. My friend, Pierre, a former "Quebecer" who twice voted for separation, but now calls himself a "North American" hoped that a conservative victory would be good for Quebec as Harper claimed to be an advocate of "provincial" (state's) rights. Also the Canadian Liberal Party was very corrupt. Pierre already admits he made a mistake.

Harper is pro-war, though most of Canada is not, and he has begun working to chip away at many of Canada's social programs. You guys would love him.
