"Because when you kill 300 people, 400 people, who have nothing to do with the provocations Hezbollah staged, but you do it in effect deliberately by being indifferent to the scale of collateral damage, you're killing hostages in the hope of intimidating those that you want to intimidate. And more likely than not you will not intimidate them. You'll simply outrage them and make them into permanent enemies with the number of such enemies increasing."

Zbig Brzezinski: Israel's Actions in Lebanon Essentially Amount to "the Killing of Hostages"
Brzezinski stated: "I hate to say this but I will say it. I think what the Israelis are doing today for example in Lebanon is in effect, in effect -- maybe not in intent -- the killing of hostages. The killing of hostages."

How many missles, bomb sorties, and artillary volleys has Isreal fired into Lebanon during this war? Compare that to the number of civillian casualties, and the enromous amount of destruction caused by these munitions, and you can easily see that the civillian causualty scale is low, and that the Isrealis are not targetting civillians. The only thing keeping down the low civillian toll of the Hezbollah attacks is the limitations of its munitions quality, as evidenced by the relatively small amount of destruction.
If Isreal wanted to kill civilians, the amount of munitions that its sent over the fence would have caused tens of thousands of deaths... at least a couple of deaths per round.
Here's an idea: Why doesn't Hezbollah see what happens if it stops attacking Isreal? Isreal has already discovered what happens when it concededs territtory and honors cease-fires: more attacks from Hamas and Hezbollah.
Wow! Jimmy Carter's Secretary of State opposes Isreal's actions here? Oh, let me rethink my view!
