Islamic Crusade Terror Against US Over-Hyped?

So say my and Six's eco heros at Cafe Hyek. I have always proclaimed my support for the Bushie view as far from 100%, and opposed most of the Homelad Security / Patriot Acts, including all the increased hysteria at the airports. Don't all these extra expenses of time and fortune represent a victory for the Islamic Terror Tyrants? Would the best response have been merely to crush the Taliban, then leave Afgahnistan? Could be, I say. Maybe Nadir and Pat Buchannon have been correct all along...

I don't know Paul. I read this Foreign Affairs article last week and it sounds too much like a September 10th, 2001 attitude to me. To me, the tone is very ostrich-like.

Meuller keeps mentioning an "Attack on the scale of September 11th", but what about one on much larger scale? And he keeps referring to the attack in terms of human casualties, but what about the economic ramifications? Think of what the 9-11 attacks did to our economy, specifically the airline industry? What kind of an impact would an attack of a scale say 10 times larger have?

They're using a reverse formula to make their point from what the Bush administration uses to make theirs; They're have been no terrorist attacks in the U.S. since 9-11, so the threat is overblown, whereas the Bushies say that it is because of their efforts that there have been no more attacks.

I suppose the truth lies somewhere in between, but I think you're fooling yourself if you think these guys have got it all figured out.

I'm not sure who's correct. You may remember I've only supported Bush's view about 70% or so, and have stated that I would have supported a Nadir-Buchanon approach as well, to give it a chance.

The US terror crusade is overhyped by a president whose family has a great deal of money in the weapons, security and oil industries. You guys have been conned by a bad used car salesman.

Six: The devastation post-9/11 was caused BY the terror hysteria. Americans were afraid to fly anywhere. Restrictions on flights also kept many off the planes. Oil prices went up.

However, a good Republican like you should also remember that the economy was starting to slide before Clinton left the White House. The Internet economy was overheated. 9/11 was the thrown rod that exacerbated the problem along with Bush's tax cuts and his many other poor economic decisions.

I agree with much of Nadir's proclamations, except his assertion that Bush's tax cut harmed the economy, when clearly it boosted all economic measures, resulting in more tax revenues, much as Nadir's CD sales would generate more revenue for him if he reduced his price from too high to something more optimal. I agree with Nadir that many of the 911 security responses did nothing but waste money.
