Sin City, Batman Cartoonist Waves US Flag

This guy sounds like so many spoiled-brat ingrate Americans, many whom I know personally. The difference? This guy grew up. It took 9-11-2001 to do it, but he grew up.

Frank Miller is a comic book artist whose titles include Batman: The Dark Knight Returns and Sin City (which he co-directed for the movies). Miller recently announced that he's working on a new graphic novel in which Batman pits himself against terrorists.

" Holy Terror, Batman: That's the name of the upcoming comic by Frank Miller. The Joker and the Riddler can rest easy. "The caped crusader" will be taking on Osama bin Laden. The cartoonist says it's silly for Batman to chase old villains out of Gotham City when there are real threats out there. Miller admits it's a piece of propaganda. But hey, it worked for Superman and Captain America, who both he punched out Hitler."

I like Frank Miller. There is nothing wrong with him becoming fond of the old piece of cloth.

I also like the fact that he admits having Batman chase Osama Bin Laden is propaganda.

Don't we all wish that Batman was real? Since the US government isn't pursuing Bin Laden anymore, Batman could actually find and arrest him...

I agree with Nadir that the Bushies flubbed the Bin Laden chase. At Tora Bora they made a choice which at the time could have seemed logical, and had it worked, they'd have been geniuses. But their decision to let the warlords lead resulted in the escape of an otherwise doomed Bin Laden. Since then, the Bushies seem to have comprimised with Pakistan's dictator on this matter.

On the other hand, I hold the view -- seemingly shared by the Bushies -- that capturing Bin Laden is not nearly as important to ending anti-civilization terror crusading as is establishing a civilization somewhere in an important Arabian nation. The Bushies selected Iraq due to such pre existing factors as various violations of the 1991 cease fire. Like the Tora Bora decision, this one may yet prove erroneous. But I hope not, and I would like to see it get its best chance.

My close friend in Iraq who grew up with me, Vassar, is certain that the Bushies have a sincere desire to facilitate the erection of a prosperous civilization. But he is equally certain that Iraq today contains far too many brutal, tyrnanical cretins who prefer to fight it out for a new dictatorship. He believes that the cause is lost, and that the US needs to leave and let "them them kill each other until they get tired of it."
