Commerce Department loses 1,137 laptops

And this is the same government that supposedly coordinated and pulled off the great 9-11 conspiracy?

You'll have to pardon me when I say that I don't buy it.

This is the same government that lost laptops containing nuclear secrets.

The government that coordinated the 9/11 conspiracy is the same one that duped you into voting for George Bush when you knew he was an idiot and a failure. It is the same government that built secret prisons in other countries and spies on American citizens. It's the same government that railroaded Congress into signing the Patriot Act (though those idiots didn't read it first).

It's as if our government has a split personality. When it wants to, it can act decisively and unilaterally like with the invasion of Iraq. When it needs to, but isn't interested, it gets caught in a quagmire of bureaucratic red tape like with Hurricane Katrina or with paying a Medicare claim.

The govt that supposedly orchestrated the 911 attack couldn't even keep its secret prisons secret. Of course this doesn't constitute absolute refutation of the 911 conspiracy claims.

Six and I might be totally wrong. There might not be substantial forces in the world driven by dark age islamic militarism to attack the US and re-create the islamic empire, this time running it as tyranically as mohammed did personally (he died long before his empire reached its fullest extent, and for some portion of that time its leaders were less tyranical than Mohammad). And maybe the real evil on earth really is in the US white house, where an election-stealing usurper orchestrated a secret attack on the US in order to justify an invasion of Iraq... but without fabricating clear linkage between that attack and Iraq's then government.

Then the Bushies used knowingly false claims of WMDs in Iraq (the Bushies *knew* that weapons inspections were unneccessary, because -- as LIERS -- they knew that their claims of WMD were false) and, though enjoying the capacity and experiance of staging the 911 attack, could not stage planting a few lousy WMDs in Iraq. To the contrary, the very action that their *LIE* of WMDs enabled them to impliment... proved that their original claims were false, exposing them to charges that they were knowingly false, uncovering their mascarade.

Lets' recap. The Bushies went through the trouble to stage 911 in order to justify invading Iraq, but they did not trouble themselves to fabricate direct, obvious linkage between 911 and Iraq. Instead, knowing that Iraq lacked WMDs, they used assertions of WMDs as part of their justification for invading Iraq... an action that would expose their claim WMD as false.

I can certainly understand why somebody who believes that "anti-price-gouging" laws will help disaster area residents maintain recourses at pre-disaster prices would believe all this.

There are forces, but they are not substantial. By employing the FEAR FACTORY in an effort to unite public opinion against them, the Bush Regime is giving a few scattered, unorganized extremists more power than they actually possess. They are the willing recipients of a PR campaign they could never have financed on their own.

"The Devil" himself. I was just in DC, and you could smell the sulpher...

Nadir: I have always articulated my belief in the strong possibility that the muslim tyranical retard element was insubstantial, and that their 911 attack merely represented a fantastic combination of genius idea and good luck, with the massive response from the US govt constituting the real strike against America. If Gore had won the election, I would have supported the following response:

"We are going to do nothing at the airports except rewrite our hijacking playbook and replace the cabin doors. We'll zip into Afgahnistan and destroy the taliban, then leave, with the promise to assist any native democratic movement that organizes and asserts itself. Other than that, we'll just re-build the world trade centers. Go back to enjoying your lives."

NO! NO! NO! NO! NO!!!!

You're missing it entirely. If I had my own theory that the 9/11 attacks were organized by a neocon faction coordinated with Dick Cheney (with or without Dubya's knowledge)it would go something like this:

An invasion of Afghanistan was planned well in advance of 9/11. There is historical documentation to support this.

Knowing that the US public would not accept a new war without a Pearl Harbor type incident (according to the Project for the New American Century), a neocon faction either orchestrated 9/11 or, because tons of intelligence indicated that an attack on American soil was eminent, allowed it to happen.

The most compelling evidence that the Bush regime may have been involved is the governments actions (war games the morning of 9/11, Bush's blocking of an investigation) and inaction (no interceptors, Bush wasn't rushed out of Booker Elementary by the SS). Private action (put options prior to 9/11 and countless warnings to civilians and government officials) also play a part.

The attacks provided a convenient pre-text for the Afghanistan invasion (planned at least as early as the Clinton presidency), and the PATRIOT Act (a huge document that could not possibly have been prepared in just two short weeks). Congress was railroaded on both of these because of the FEAR FACTORY that was in full effect after the 9/11 sneak attacks.

If the Bush regime had stopped there, things would have gone off without a hitch. The troops needed to secure Afghanistan would have been available, and Bush would have remained a popular wartime president. He could even have built a stronger case for war toward the end of his first term, thereby securing an easy second term victory.

But they got greedy.

With sky-high approval ratings, the Bush administration decided to push the envelope. According to former treasury secretary, Paul O'Neill, Bush had been looking for a pretext to invade Iraq since just after his inauguration. Knowing that there was a slight suspicion in the international community that Saddam Hussein was trying to reinstitute his chemical weapons program, or that there may be some left over from the Iran/Iraq war, they "sexed up" the evidence of WMDs. Tony Blair even told the world that Iraq could attack within 45 minutes - a complete fabrication. Colin Powell provided UN with the flimsy evidence that Iraq tried to buy yellowcake uranium from Niger.

Still this wasn't enough. The world community's answer was, send weapons inspectors back in. Give them time to do their work. Most countries don't want the IAEA in their countries because there are chances that other military secrets could be exposed even if no nuke info is found (see Iran), so Hussein hesitated and cooperated, but was still somewhat guarded.

But Bush grew impatient. He had to find a way to at least provide the appearance that Iraq was connected to 9/11 or his plans would fall through. Bush, Blair, Cheney and Rumsfeld knew that Iraq was the real prize, and they were not willing to wait for the slow diplomatic process to play out.

Several US generals warned that because of the Afghan invasion, US troop strength was stretched thin. Those generals were fired. CIA agents claimed that the intelligence linking Hussein to WMDs and 9/11 was sketchy at best, fabricated at worst. Wilson and Plame were targeted. Other CIA officials were fired. Some quit.

At the last minute, when Hussein realized he could stall no more, he tried to make an eleventh-hour deal with the US, but Bush ignored his plea. With UN diplomacy stalling again, the Bushies decided they could wait no longer. US troops were in position, and a plan was in place. The time to attack was now.

Hussein and his generals knew they could not win going toe to toe with the most powerful military in world history even with weakened US troop strengths. So they allowed the invasion to happen and went into hiding taking as many of their weapons as they could carry with them.

The Iraqi miltary had already been descimated by 12 years of US/UK bombing, so much of the army had been gutted. The only way they could win would be with a guerrilla force, and a well organized guerrilla force could battle for years, even decades.

So the Bush regime made some serious military errors (this is the problem when you have businessmen running a war instead of military men) and Hussein's generals (all veterans of the Iran/Iraq war and the Gulf War) made some intelligent decisions.

Thus this theory (if I had such a theory) would contend that the invasion of Iraq was not the primary reason for the 9/11 attacks. The invasion of Afghanistan was.

But even if the Bush administration didn't orchestrate the terror attacks, they took advantage of the "political capital" and bit off more than they could chew placing the US military in a quagmire it can't win.

Class is over. Any questions?
