The Military Commissions Act of 2006 governing the treatment of detainees is the culmination of relentless fear-mongering by the Bush administration since the September 11 terrorist attacks.
Because the bill was adopted with lightning speed, barely anyone noticed that it empowers Bush to declare not just aliens, but also U.S. citizens, "unlawful enemy combatants."

How have US citizens accused of serving foriegn hostile entities in time of war been treated?
Not only that,Paul, how have they been treated during times of peace?
Remember McCarthyism?
Remember COINTELPRO?
The difference now is that behavior like this by the government was outlawed after the Church Committee hearings. Now it is legal.
Why do you support this just because Lincoln and Roosevelt did it?
Truman bombed Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Do you think we should bomb Baghdad?
Slavery was once legal. Do you believe it should be legalized again, and the 13th - 15th ammendments overturned?
You're the one who always talks about civlization and people progressing into a modern world. Shouldn't we eventually let go of medieval ideals and move into the 21st Century where most other nations are trying to live together instead of fighting against each other?
